Biphasic? Start low and go slow

Much has been written about how much CBD and/or THC to use in order to achieve optimal effect, or relief from ailments such as pain, insomnia, and anxiety.

Some research studies suggest that certain amounts may work best for certain outcomes — and as the cannabis market evolves, there will be a lot more findings in this area in upcoming years.

There are many variables, including the severity of the challenge, body weight, metabolism, diet, age, budget, and desired effect.

There’s also a thing with cannabis called the biphasic effect, such that a very small amount of CBD or THC can sometimes deliver the exact opposite effect of a large amount.

With CBD, a small amount might increase energy. Too much may cause sleepiness. A small amount of THC may elevate mood and lower anxiety, whereas a large amount can increase anxiety.

Alchohol works this way also. One beer may inspire a bit of levity. Ten beers might have the opposite effect.

For those who are new to cannabis, we always recommend using the old adage: “start low and go slow.”

That means getting out the calculator and measuring the number of milligrams in half a gummy, or half a dropper from a tincture — and then increasing the number of milligrams a little after a few days.

That way you can find the right amount for you.
