Delta 8 for sleep
Many people who use Delta-8 THC before bed say it helps them sleep. Our customers tell us this every day, and there's plenty of anecdotal evidence to be found online.
But if you search for research studies about Delta-8 THC and sleep, you won't find much.
Not so for CBD and Delta-9 THC. There's a fair amount of scientific literature for those cannabinoids, and the research in this country has increased considerably since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill that made hemp products federally legal.
It's clear that CBD helps people get better sleep, and there's research to support that.
Delta-8 is a minor cannabinoid (like CBN, another up-and-comer, and over 100 others) -- but studies specific to this particular compound just haven't been done.
Given its newfound popularity, there certainly will be research findings coming our way in the future.
The difference between Delta-9-THC (the THC most people are familiar with) and Delta-8-THC is small. If you took chemistry, then you certainly understand the difference in these compounds better than we do. According to Discover, "Delta-8 has the double bond on the 8th carbon in the chain, while Delta-9 has the double bond on the 9th carbon in the chain." That's the difference.
There are also small differences in the effects people experience. People report that Delta-8 provides a more clear headed, gradual, longer experience. Whereas certain strains or too much Delta-9 can sometimes cause anxiety and paranoia, Delta-8 seems to be quite effective in reducing anxiety and helping with relaxation and sleep.
So when we recommend Delta-8 for sleep, or a combination of CBD and Delta-8, we certainly can't make claims based in science. We can only make recommendations based on what our customers share and what we read.
And what we're hearing is that Delta-8 is really great for relaxation and sleep.
Because research has been largely prohibited until two years ago, we look forward to the day when we can see scientific research, so that we can compare personal experiences with the data found in large group studies.
