Medical Cannabis in NC may be delayed until 2022

Since changes were made in late August, there's been no movement on NC Senate Bill 711, the NC Compassionate Care Act that legalizes medical cannabis in North Carolina.

It appears that some of the concerns we've had regarding qualifying conditions, patient access, and distribution licensing, have also entered the conversation in the NC General Assembly.

According to this article in Cannabis Business Times, Republican Senate Leader Phil Berger says the bill may not get a vote this year, although no final decision has been made.

Because Republicans control the state legislature and Senate Bill 711 is sponsored by a Republican senator, many people think this is the best chance North Carolina has had for legalizing medical cannabis.

The bill is narrowly focused on allowing cannabis use for "debilitating medical conditions." Sen. Wally Nickel, D-Wake, who supports the bill, called it “the most conservative and restrictive medical marijuana bill in the country.”
