Some minors: CBG, CBN, THCV, and Delta 8
CBD and Delta-9 THC are the most common cannabinoids in cannabis plants, with over 130 different cannabinoids.
They are the the stars, at the front of the stage — but there’s an orchestra playing with them.
The players in the orchestra are the minors, and they sometimes emerge for solo performances.
And when cannabinoids are extracted and distilled, sometimes they switch instruments.
For example, Delta-8 THC is a minor cannabinoid that gets converted from the most plentiful cannabinoid in industrial hemp, CBD.
While not legal here, Delta-8 can also come from plants with high levels of Delta-9. The Delta-9 THC can degrade into the less potent and more stable Delta-8. Delta-9 THC can also degrade into CBN.
Most of what we know about these minor cannabinoids come from anecdotal evidence. People use them, talk, and write about it. And then the marketing messages come from that.
So while there is an abundance of anecdotal data based on shared experience, there's little hard evidence. Not enough research been done in the United States on the major cannabinoids, and almost none on the minors.
If your interested in what is known about some of the more popular minor cannabinoids, here’s an interesting article from Harvard Health that discusses a few of them.
