The Endocannabinoid System

Cannabis research led to the discovery of the Endocannabinoid System in 1992.

The ECS is largely comprised of endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes that are believed to help regulate a variety of functions in humans including sleep, mood, memory, appetite, reproduction, and pain sensation.

Scientists have many questions about the Endocannabinoid System, and this is where the potential for cannabis lies.

Much of our knowledge combines less research and more of an accumulation of data based on thousands of years of human experience.

One day, it’s likely that cannabis will become federally legal and restrictions on research will diminish. That’s when we’ll start to get enough data to paint a more comprehensive picture.

We’ll know more about how to use cannabis — and what amounts and combinations of cannabinoids work best for the many ailments we know it helps.

And we’ll know more about using cannabis to promote overall good health and well being.
